Name: Anamaria Saldana
Age: 32
Allegiance: Pirate
Ship/port of call: The Wicked Wench
Title/Job Crew Member
Personal History:
Anamaria Saldana was the first child born to Gabriella and Joshua Saldana, a poor Jamaican couple in Tortuga. The small family lived in a broken down shed on the outskirts of the pirate town, their streets rancid with poverty. Her parents worked hard for every cent they earned, Joshua laboring in the sun at a plantation and Gabriella slaving over rich white folk as a maid. When Anamaria reached the age of five her mother gave birth to a baby boy, who Anamaria then spent the next 15 years raising while her parents worked. However, feeding four people proved harder than the family could manage and often times the children would leave their dinners still hungry. Desperate for another helping, Anamaria became a rather skilled pick-pocket as a teenager. Owing to the fact that a majority of Tortuga’s residents were drunk nearly 24 hours a day, stealing a shilling or two became easy as cake. While roaming the streets, Anamaria watched many a pirate pass through and found their lifestyle fairly glamorous. Curious and dreaming to follow in their footsteps, the girl taught herself how to handle a sword and engaged in countless imaginary battles with her friends.
By the age of 16, Anamaria was working the taverns as a bar maid to earn an honest wage. Here she matured faster than a child her age should, surrounded at all hours by raunchy women and dirty drunkards. Anamaria hated the women that exploited themselves for money, and hated the men who bought them even more. She learned to fend for herself against the love-hungry scoundrels and began to carry a stolen pistol hidden in the skirt of her dress. Her brother ran away as a teenager and her parents eventually passed away from age and poor health, leaving Anamaria without any ties to the pirate town.
Ready to fulfill her childhood dream at the age of 21, the woman joined a crew or privateers sailing out of Tortuga disguised as a boy in order to be accepted. Anamaria crewed the ship for nearly a decade and learned the art of navigation from her captain, becoming a trustworthy first mate. However, while docked at a small English port, most of her crew was caught and hung for piracy. Anamaria managed to elude the redcoats by losing her male disguise, dressing herself in a stolen peasant dress. During the night, she commandeered a small one-sailed boat and made her way back to Tortuga. Proud of her newest commodity, Anamaria christened the boat the Jolly Mon and used it to sail back and forth to nearby trading centers. She often transported many people as well and collected a fair sum of money for her trade. While she spent an evening drinking with friends at a local tavern, Anamaria came across an odd yet fascinating man: Captain Jack Sparrow. She grew rather fond of him and found his company fairly entertaining, until he stole her precious boat.
In need of weekly earnings after losing her transport vessel, Anamaria reclaimed her position at the tavern and worked as a bar maid once again. On a usual chaos ridden night, the woman spotted Jack, accompanied by Mr. Gibbs and a young man she didn’t know. When Gibbs began searching the tavern for able sailors, the woman abandoned her post and disguised herself as a man once again. Oblivious to her sex, Gibbs welcomed her to the crew and she reported to the docks the following morning. From here the tale of Anamaria Saldana follows that of Captain Jack Sparrow and his crew of miscreants as they set sail after Jack’s beloved Pearl.
However, Anamaria did not stay long with the Black Pearl after she sailed back to Port Royal to retrieve her captain. No more than a few months had passed when she left the ship at Tortuga, uncertain as to what she wanted to do with the rest of her life. Anamaria attempted to settle back into the monotony of life, but found it impossible after the grand adventure of the Black Pearl. As if to answer her prayers, another magnificent ship made port at Tortuga. Captain Arabella Drummond of the Wicked Wench quickly hired Anamaria to the crew, and the woman found her self in a haven of women much like herself. Here she found her true life love, sailing into and endless horizon upon the open sea.
Appearance: Blessed with the curved figure of a woman, Anamaria is a sight to behold among the general clan of pirates. Her face is slender and fair, high cheekbones and glittering chestnut eyes standing out above all else. Silky locks fall in waves about her shoulders and shine in the sun with a dark auburn, almost black, color. Anamaria often braids it to keep strands of hair from whipping her face in the strong sea wind, but can also be seen letting her hair down. Many times the woman will crown her head with an orange bandana, dulled to a muddy tint by dirt and the sun.
Anamaria has a slender yet muscular physic, due to the constant physical labor that comes hand in hand with crewing a ship. Her Jamaican heritage blessed the woman with soft dark skin, which had darkened slightly during months of sailing in the merciless sun. However, Anamaria does bear the marks of battle and several white scars can be found on her torso and arms, the most notable being a 4 inch gash across her left bicep.
Her beautiful womanly features are dulled somewhat as Anamaria dawns the ruddy attire of a pirate. An aged white blouse covers her torso, opened slightly at the neck, and she has recently added a dull brown tunic to the mix. It is buttoned in three places at Anamaria’s waist, leaving the tails open about her thighs for better mobility. A crème sash is wrapped tightly about her waist, secured with a thick black belt and large gold buckle. On said belt rests her trusty cutlass, stashed away in its sheath, and her musket is tucked safely behind the buckle. Her slender legs are covered by dirty crème trousers, which die into a pair of worn leather boots.

Personality: Anamaria is a very strong willed woman, much to the contrary of how a lady should act during the time period. She is extremely ambitious and makes herself known in the world, which has placed her name in conjunction with many a famous pirate, namely the Captains Jack Sparrow and Arabella Drummond. Having faced both the highs and lows of life, Anamaria has become as well-rounded as a pirate could be. She carries a basic moral standard, which waves in and out depending upon the context. The Pirate Code is also held close to heart, though it occasionally acts as more of guidelines than actual rules.
Upon first meeting, Anamaria can seem slightly short and distant. She is not quick to trust, due to previous experience, so earning it is hard to come by. However, once the woman feels she can trust a person, she becomes an extremely loyal friend and ally. On the flip side, Anamaria can be quite the firecracker when her anger is fuelled. She will not hesitate to stand up for herself or her friends, even if it ends with the cold steel of her cutlass.
On the rare occasion, Anamaria can break away from her tough exterior and prove to be a compassionate lady. She has yet to find love, but awaits it hopefully. Should the opportunity present itself, the woman would undoubtedly become a devoted wife, though she would not settle for the standard jobs of a woman. Her man would have to love her as he loved the sea, beautiful and ever-changing.

Freedom.
Anamaria could smell it in the salty sea air as the Wicked Wench sailed ever onward towards an endless horizon. A wave crashed hard against the ships hull as she cut through the dark water, wetting the woman’s face with cold sea spray. Anamaria grinned contently, wiping her windswept face with the cuff of a dirty white blouse. There was nothing quite like the open waters, where they were surrounded on all sides by absolutely nothing. She felt free from the cruel hateful world; free and tremendously powerful on such a grand pirate ship. Anamaria welcomed the sensation with open arms and an open heart. Once again, the woman was a part of a greater thing, a vessel: the Wicked Wench. One of the last real pirate ships left in the Caribbean.
The woman had never quite appreciated a ship as much as she did these days. Anamaria loved the creak of her shifting wood planks, the tug of the rigging as the sea breeze hugged the great canvas sails, the adrenaline rush that came hand in hand with and honest bit of pirating. She had found her true love in life, a life that was spent among the high seas.
Called out of her reveries by the familiar commands of her captain, Anamaria made herself useful as she dashed to help the crew with the rigging. Grasping the tough rope tightly in her callused hands, the woman tugged ferociously as they hoisted the sails to their full capacity. The ship was making good time already, but with full canvas they’d be ahead of schedule.
Securing the rope tightly to a metal casing, Anamaria looked up at the bridge where Captain Arabella Drummond mastered the helm. The pirate was glad to see a fellow woman in the pirating world, especially one with as much power as Arabella. Anamaria had often dreamed of captaining her own vessel, but often scolded herself for the thought. Jolly row boats were a lot easier to commander that a massive ship such as the Wicked Wench, and purchasing one was definitely out of the question.
But a girl can dream right?
Anamaria grinned at the thought. After all, the woman was a fabulous navigator and born leader. She was an asset on any ship, which all sailors who had crossed her had come to realize. But owning a vessel was also a difficult job, and Anamaria was willing to take the challenge.
But for the time being, she was happy enough to crew the Wicked Wench. She had many friends here and was thankful for that. Anamaria made her way to the helm to converse with her dear captain, tying her hair back with a ribbon as she walked.
“Oy, Capt’n. What’s our heading?”
